About two months ago, I learned something new about myself, though I probably knew it before but never gave it a name. Since then, I’ve been saying it repeatedly because it has changed how I view my growth and progress in Christ.
What I learned is that I am a results-oriented person. In simple terms, this means I focus on achieving specific, measurable goals rather than just staying busy or completing tasks. For me, this also means that if I don't see the outcomes of my actions, then I believe I haven't truly met my goals.
However, I’ve had to wrestle with this idea in my spiritual walk with the Lord because God's perspective, as shown in Hebrews 11:1, is different. The verse says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." This teaches that we should focus on hope and trust in things that are not visible, rather than just tangible results.
This verse has also helped me see that having confidence in God is more important than relying solely on myself. Trusting that the Lord, who started a good work in me, is able to bring it to completion is what truly matters. When I keep God at the center, my faith can grow through actions that are measurable and achievable according to His will.
Though my desires are to see produced work and goals, God tells me in His Word that He is the author and finisher of my faith. So, walking forward in Christ means believing that the things I don’t see are actually the goals I should be striving for, rather than only what I can physically see.
Maybe you are like me today, learning new things about yourself but struggling to understand how God views them. Well, look no further. The Bible is filled with scriptures that help us better understand ourselves and trust God with where we are headed.
Verses:
As you sit this week and reflect on your future, or perhaps where you currently are, shift your confidence to hope in the assurance that God is working and able to complete what He has started in you. He could also be preparing you for what is to come - the things you don't see.
You can rest this week knowing that God is far more capable of fulfilling the immeasurable goals and tasks He has set before us. Trust in Him, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your actions, acknowledging that He is ready to step in and help.
Prayer:
God, help us today to see You as a good Father. Though the world tells us that doing more is better, we put our trust in You today, believing that You are greater and more worthy than any task or action we can complete. Help us to focus our minds on You, severing all idolatrous work within us and connecting us to the source, which is You. Thank You for Holy Spirit, who helps us each day become more like Jesus, the ultimate goal and sacrifice for our faith. Build us up as we continue to walk the narrow path with all hope in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
