Faithful Hand of God

This week, I want to touch on a recurring theme in my walk with Christ: God provides for us wherever we are. It took me some time to fully understand this. Throughout the Bible and from generation to generation, we see that God is never far from His people. He is always a step ahead, faithfully making a way for them.

Let’s turn to Genesis 26:3-22. Isaac, Abraham’s son, you may know him as the one Abraham was willing to sacrifice, is now an adult, and a famine has struck the land. God commands Isaac not to go to Egypt. God tells him, verse 3 “Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.”

Even though there was a famine, Isaac prospered. Verse 12 reads: “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him.” Verse 13 continues: “The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.”

Keep in mind that the land was experiencing a famine, a time of extreme food shortages and dryness. Yet Isaac was blessed beyond measure, and the Philistines became envious of him. Verse 15 says: “All the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.”

They were so envious that they filled the wells with dirt, preventing the water from flowing. It’s astonishing how far people may go to oppose what God is doing. However, God remained faithful to Isaac, kept His promises, and came to his defense.

Verse 22 concludes by saying: “He moved on from there and dug another well.… He named it Rehoboth, saying, ‘Now the Lord has given us room, and we will flourish in the land.’”

In the midst of famine and dry seasons, God is still able to provide for us. When we trust Him and walk in obedience to His Word, He provides faithfully. He is a promise-keeping God who does not go back on His Word or change. He sees our needs and acts like a good Father would.

I hope this becomes true for everyone reading. Psalm 23:1 reminds us, “The Lord is my shepherd; I lack nothing.” God is more than capable of meeting our needs when we seek Him wholeheartedly and follow His Word. If you need God to bring water from a dry well, as He did for Isaac, trust that He can. Heaven and earth belong to God, not to man. God can do the impossible and will do it again and again.

Prayer:

God, thank You for Your children who desperately need You today to act on the things You have promised. Help us hold on to Your Word and see Your faithfulness at work in our lives. Increase our faith and strengthen our assurance that our hope is in You. Give us peace and help us trust the God who brings water from dry places, a miracle only You can do. Sustain us, as You sustained Isaac. Help us seek You and stand firm when things look difficult, trusting that You will lead us through. I pray that everyone reading this will receive Your truth today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
