Only God Can Save

There comes a point in every man and woman’s life where God, within His will, allows the opportunity for surrender, to choose Him, to be consumed by Him, and to become utterly dependent on Him. This is the truest form of God’s purpose: to bring His people back to Himself.

Before going to the cross, Jesus did not speak on His own authority, but only what the Father had spoken. He says in John 12:44-47: Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.”

What Jesus spoke here is the truth of why He was sent. Yet, we often claim there is nothing we need saving from, or we are too prideful to admit that God is the only person we refuse to be saved by. Nevertheless, it is Jesus who says we have been called to light and freedom; therefore, He came to offer that freedom through Himself. To be saved by God, from God (His wrath), we must believe in and receive Jesus.

On the Day of Judgment, God is the only one who can save us. It won’t be the songs we sang, our church attendance, or even the sacrifices we made through service that secure our place. It will be the state of our hearts toward God, whether we lived in full surrender and received His most precious gift and offering, Jesus.

Prayer:

Today, I pray that when God shows you that He alone can save you, you will abide in Him. I pray that He would teach you all things and lead you into full surrender to His will and His hand. May your life be filled with peace as God saves you from His own wrath. I pray His love would show you that He is able to do far more than we could ever ask or think, and that through His salvation, we have eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
